POVERTY
ABOUT POVERTY đź’§
When we talk about poverty, we’re not just talking about money — we’re talking about access. Access to safety, education, opportunity, and yes… even clean water. 🌎
Right now, over 700 million people lack access to safe drinking water. For many communities around the world, something as simple as turning on the tap is not simple at all. Instead, young people — especially girls — walk miles every day to collect water that isn’t even safe. This means missing school, risking illness, and limiting their chance to build the future they deserve.
And here’s the truth: water isn’t just a health issue — it’s a poverty issue. When a community gets access to clean water, everything changes. Kids can go to school. Families stay healthy. Local economies grow. The cycle of poverty finally starts to break.
Legacy students have been taking action on this issue for years — from raising awareness in their schools, to leading fundraisers that help build wells in communities facing water scarcity, to learning how global issues like sanitation, gender inequality, and education are all connected to clean water access.
Clean water changes everything. And young people have the power to help make that change happen. 💛
WHAT WE DO:
At Legacy, we don’t just talk about issues — we activate around them. 🙌
Every year, we build national student-led campaigns that give young people the tools to take meaningful action toward ending global poverty. From water walks to school-wide challenges to digital advocacy, we help students understand the root causes of poverty and empower them with real, measurable ways to make a difference.
Through our past campaigns, Legacy students have:
🌊 Raised funds and awareness for clean water projects
📣 Educated their communities on how water access shapes education, safety, and economic stability
🤝 Partnered with leading organizations tackling the water crisis
đź’ˇ Learned how global poverty intersects with gender equality, climate change, and human rights
Our goal? To build a generation of leaders who understand the issue, speak up about it, and take action that leads to real-world impact.
Because when young people lead, change follows. 💛🌍
